Evonik Foundation Scholarship

Since winter term 2016/17 Ruhr University Bochum and Evonik Foundation are offering scholarships for students with a refugee background.

Eligible to apply for a scholarship are young women and men who wish to take up or continue a degree course in engineering, natural sciences or economics at RUB.

List of Courses

Applicants interested in applying for a scholarship are required to hold a residence permit and a school-leaving certificate or other document granting access to higher education (university entrance qualification). The scholarship includes a monthly grant of Euro 300 financed through funds from Evonik Foundation in combination with “Deutschlandstipendium” offered by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

In addition, Evonik Foundation will cover the university registration fees (so-called “Sozialbeitrag” or social services contribution), provide funds for learning materials and organize an accompanying programme for the students.

Student financing

Financing your studies

Please note that a monthly grant of Euro 300 does not allow a full coverage of the costs of your studies. In other words, you are required to look for additional financial support. For this purpose, please check early on if you can apply for “BAföG”. BAföG (short for Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz) is an interest-free public loan for students. For more information on how to finance your studies, please contact our social advisory services.
