Helping fellow international students is particularly rewarding: through intercultural exchange and the opportunity to brush up on your own foreign language skills, there is often as much to learn as there is to pass on.
As Study Buddies, local students help international students to find their way around their new university and their new life. The program is supervised by the Akademisches Förderungswerk (Akafö).
campus Guides support international students during their first days at RUB as part of the International Office's orientation days at the beginning of the semester.
The International Office offers free German courses for refugees in cooperation with the Department of German as a Foreign Language. In workshops, students are given the background knowledge to teach German to refugees in teams on the RUB campus as volunteer German teachers.
At the language café, "locals" and "internationals" meet at language islands. The language of choice is practiced here in a relaxed atmosphere, with help from the Language Guides.
In the Buddy Program Natural Pals, students in the natural sciences support international first-year students at their faculty as peer tutors when they start their studies.
Tandem.MINT is a language tandem program for students of engineering and natural sciences.
With Campus Guide integra , students have the opportunity to practise event organization and project work, develop and promote intercultural skills, improve their foreign language skills and also train communication and presentation skills, especially in dealing with other cultures.
