Ruhr-University plays a part in the World University Games 2025

The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games - formerly known as the Universiade - are the largest top-level student sporting event and the world's largest multi-sport event after the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Germany has only hosted the event once before: in Duisburg in the summer of 1989.

The time is coming soon: from July 16 to 27, the competition will be coming to the Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin. Around 8,500 athletes and officials from over 170 countries are expected to take part in a total of 18 sports.

At the Bochum venue, the athletics competitions will take place in the Lohrheide Stadium in Wattenscheid, while a major international science congress and the 3x3 basketball competitions will be held in the Jahrhunderthalle . The international "Ruhr Games 2025" will also take place on the site as a further sporting and cultural highlight.

The other venues are Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim, Hagen and Berlin.
