Ruth und Gert Massenberg-Stiftung
The Ruth and Gert Massenberg Foundation supports talented scientists in the early stages of their careers in the fields of technology and natural sciences.
The Ruth and Gert Massenberg Foundation is an unincorporated charitable foundation based in Essen, which has been carrying out its charitable activities in close cooperation with the Ruhr University Bochum in various funding programs since 1992.
The purpose of the foundation is to support talented scientists in early career phases of German origin in their education in the technological and/or scientific field.
Funding programs of the foundation
Travel grants for scientists in the early stages of their careers in engineering and the natural sciences
One of the Ruth and Gert Massenberg Foundation's funding programs is the provision of travel grants. These travel grants can be awarded to scientists in early career phases of German origin, including Master's students, to attend national and international events (including symposia, workshops, training courses, etc.), provided that they give a lecture or report on their own research results in a poster presentation.
The most important key data
- Funding of up to 1,250 euros per individual case
- For full-time applicants (this includes all academic staff with a full-time position), 35% of the proven travel costs will be deducted as a personal contribution.
- Applications are limited to two travel grants per applicant.
Eligible researchers in early career phases apply for travel grants via the Dean's Office of their faculty to the RUB Chancellor. For 2015, an amount of 3,750 euros is available to each of the faculties listed below.
Gert Massenberg Prize for Engineers/ Ruth Massenberg Prize for Scientists
Since 1993, the Ruth and Gert Massenberg Foundation has endowed two prizes each year: The Ruth Massenberg Prize is awarded to the best dissertation or habilitation in the field of natural sciences at the suggestion of a faculty of natural sciences, while the Gert Massenberg Prize is awarded to a winner from a faculty of engineering.
The prizes, now worth 3,000 euros, are awarded at the end-of-semester concert.
Support within the framework of the Deutschlandstipendiums
The Ruth and Gert Massenberg Foundation also provides funding within the framework of the RUB Deutschlandstipendiu.
