Childcare: Services at RUB

In addition to the question of financing your degree while taking care of a child, the other urgent issue is daycare. Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) offers a wealth of childcare services, those including Kitag and a playgroup run by a parent initiative with flexible hours.

Kitag at Lennershof

Managed by Akademisches Förderungswerk (AKAFÖ), the daycare centre Kitag at Lennershof looks after 90 children between four months and school age, organized in four groups with children at different ages. Moreover, 20 primary school children attend the daycare centre after school. Kitag opens from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission deadline is in August for the following kindergarten year; in the event of vacancies, children may be admitted during the current kindergarten year on a case-by-case basis.

UniKids

Managed by AKAFÖ (Akademisches Förderungswerk), the daycare centre UniKids is situated at the RUB campus, southwest of the Mensa. UniKids looks after 110 children of RUB employees, students and international visitors, between four months and school age. The opening hours at the daycare centre are 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; peak hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Admission deadline is in in August for the following kindergarten year. Registration deadline is in December of the previous year. In the event of vacancies, children may be admitted during the current kindergarten year on a case-by-case basis.

Uni Zwerge e.V.

Uni Zwerge e.V. is an initiative by parents who are RUB students or employees. Children between the ages of six months and kindergarten age are looked after at the Uni Zwerge facilities in GA building. The childcare schedule is flexibly adapted to parents’ requirements, Mondays to Fridays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. As a parent initiative, the association requires the parents to collaborate

ProKids Holiday Childcare

RUB organises the ProKids holiday childcare scheme, running for two weeks during the summer holidays and one week each during the Easter and autumn holidays. Children of RUB employees and students between 6 and 13 years of age are eligible for holiday childcare, which is available either as a half-day or full-day scheme, in accordance with the requirements.
