Golden doctorate jubilee 2020
On January 30, 2020, the second interdisciplinary Golden Doctorate Ceremony took place at RUB. The Rectorate honored alumni who received their doctorate at RUB 50 years ago: 28 Golden Doctorates from 9 faculties, who completed their doctorate in 1969 or 1970, traveled to campus to celebrate their anniversary.
In his welcoming address, Rector Prof. Dr. Schölmerich traced the arc from the beginnings of the RUB campus, when it was the "largest construction site in Europe", to today's excellence strategy of the Ruhr-Universität. At the subsequent ceremony, he presented the alumni with their renewed doctoral certificates.
The afternoon with a lot of exchange about memories, the present and the future of RUB finally came to a festive end at the traditional semester concert in the Audimax.
The celebration "brought back a good deal of identification with the Ruhr-Universität", said Dr. rer. nat. Karl-Heinz Scharf, Golden Doctor of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, who was visiting the Ruhr region and Bochum again for the first time in 50 years.
