Experiencing sustainability

Students were involved in the field of sustainability long before companies discovered the term. At Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), too, many projects and interdisciplinary groups show the many ways in which resources can be responsibly conserved and future-proof development can be initiated.

Sustainability Forum

The Sustainability Forum was founded with the aim of raising awareness of environmental issues and disseminating knowledge. Sustainable solutions are developed and implemented in various working groups such as Tiny House, Urban Gardening and Biowaste. The Campus Gardening project is already in its second year, planting several beds on campus with plants and vegetables in cooperation with the Botanical Garden.

Bicycle self-help workshop and repair café

Just throw away a broken bike?! That hits both the wallet and the ecological conscience. In the Asta's bicycle self-help workshop, bicycles can be repaired with expert help. The necessary tools are also available. Use is free of charge for students, all others are asked for a small donation.

Homepage BIKE WORKSHOP

The Asta Repair Café is also about tackling the throwaway society with knowledge transfer and community spirit - here, visitors not only learn a lot while repairing, but also appreciate their belongings more.

Sharing is Caring

Two other Asta projects ensure that resources are not wasted: For example, the Fairteiler - shelves and a fridge for food on the ground floor of the student house - takes in food and is ready to be filled and served.

Abou Fairteiler

A bookcase near the Kulturcafé takes in unloved and unused books, which are then available for others to use.
