Scholarship for the support of students with child/ren in financial difficulty

Students with children have to deal with the challenge of studying, childcare, the organization of the family life and possible part time – all at the same time. Furthermore they have to assure their livelihood and the livelihood of their child/ren. Due to the current corona crisies the struggle is exacerbated for most students with child/ren.

Students with child/ren at the RUB can apply for a monthly sum of 400 Euros for a period of six months (summer semester 2020). The application has to be sent by the 15. Mai 2020.

Students with child/ren can apply for a scholarship, which is funded by subsidies of a trust for equal opportunities at universities by the land of Northrhine-Westphalia. The scholarship aims to support students with child/ren with the result that financial problems will not compromise the course of studies, especially during the corona crisis.

Informationen about the scholarship

Sum: 400 Euro monthly

Period of eligibility: for a period of six months (summer semester 2020)

Requirements for application:: Registered Bachelor-, Master- and State Examination-students at the RUB, who are living in one household with their own or adopted child/ren under 14 years are eligible to apply.

Award Criteria:

  • Necessity (referring to the guidelines of the vocational training gants ) and finacial situation of the family
  • Family situation
  • Active course of studies

The scholarships will be granted by a comission of members of the administrative department University Development and Strategy, Familyfriendly University, Equal Opportunities Officer and the Course Guidance Center.

The application has to enclosure the following documents:

  • Application Form „Support of students with child/ren at the RUB“
  • Cover letter with information about the personal situation and the actual and planned course of
  • Curriculum vitae of the applicant
  • Copy of birth certificate of the child/ren
  • Copy of administrative notice of vocational training grants
  • Transcript of records
  • Copy of bank account statements from the last three months
  • Signed data protection statement

After the end of the sponsorship, evidence of the current course of studies for the time of the scholarship must be provided (for example transcript of records).

There is no legal entitlement to funding.
