Thanks and Farewell: A Festive Retirement Ceremony

In mid-June, Beckmanns Hof once again hosted a ceremonial farewell for long-serving employees of Ruhr University Bochum.

For Rector Prof. Dr. Martin Paul and the new Chancellor Dr. Achim Dilling, it was a special honor to share this moment with the retirees and to personally recognize their many years of loyalty and dedication.

Some of the employees, who were honored that day with music and an engaging program, had been employed at RUB for up to 45 years—years during which their work, too, had undergone significant changes. Some began their careers here back when typewriters and rotary-dial telephones were common office tools.

A wide variety of RUB departments were represented at the farewell event: not only various faculties, but also, for example, the Botanical Garden, IT Administration, the campus cafeteria, and the printing center. What they all have in common is that, through their work, they have accompanied, supported, and helped shape the functioning and transformation of the RUB over the decades.

Reunion of former employees

The reunion of former employees takes place annually following the Academic Annual Ceremony in November and is intended to be an occasion to express the RUB’s connection to its long-time former colleagues and to provide an opportunity to reconnect and catch up. Retired faculty and staff who would like to reconnect with one another or meet their colleagues who are still working are cordially invited to the alumni gathering every year.

In the alumni lounge, set up specifically for the gathering, both former and current employees can share memories and stay in touch. To receive an invitation to the alumni gathering, you must register in the RUB alumni directory and join one of the groups for former employees there. Employees who are about to retire are also invited to register in the RUB alumni directory to receive an invitation to the alumni gathering.
