In the student garden, students from all departments of Ruhr University Bochum grow potatoes, blueberries and mint. Those who participate in the course “Gardening for non-biologists” even receive credit points.
Fancy sowing, weeding and harvesting? The student garden is located behind the Mensa of Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), right next to the children's daycare center and always welcomes active support.
Besides the variety of fruit and vegetables that are grown, there is also a dye garden with flowers and shrubs from which natural dyes are made. The association is also committed to animal welfare.
The student garden is not (only) about home-grown produce for the shared kitchen: The project is backed by the association “RUB Studigarten Lustigs Erben e.V.”, which sees the student garden as an educational garden:
In the student garden, students not only gain experience in gardening, but can also earn credit points: During the summer semesters, the “Optionalbereich” offers the course “Designing gardens, managing gardens.” Under the guidance of Birgit Frey, degree in social sciences, and Tim Cremer, around 40 students learn how to control unwanted and harmful plants and how best to store vegetables once they have been harvested.
Of course, students who have not taken the module also involve in the student garden and enjoy the association life.
