Scholarships for international students

There is a variety of scholarships available to international students with or without a refugee background in Germany. Choosing the right scholarship is a very individual process that the student financial advisory team is happy to support you with.

Scholarship options

Every scholarship is awarded according to specific selection criteria which the institution granting the scholarship has stipulated.. But it is not only top grades that count: your personality, family situation, hobbies and your own (educational) biography will also be taken into account. Last but not least, volunteering experience can be a deciding factor when applying for a scholarship.

Scholarships awarded by the International Office

Every semester, the International Office awards scholarships to international students with and without a refugee background.

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) provides scholarships both for German students abroad and for international students in Germany. In most cases, students can apply once they have taken up their master’s degree. Additionally, it is also possible to receive funding for shorter stays abroad or special projects.
Students may use the DAAD scholarship database and website to find out more. We recommend that students begin their research into scholarships as early as possible (ideally about a year in advance).
