Scholarships for international students

Scholarships play an important role in the organisation of studies. International students with and without a refugee background are also offered various scholarship schemes. The first point of contact is the International Office, which helps students apply for a scholarship.

Scholarship options

Scholarship options are highly individual. But it is not only top grades that count. It often helps to consider all personal factors (origins, religion, hobbies and social commitment) and the discipline (main subjects, combination of subjects) in order to meet a scholarship target.

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) provides scholarships both for German students abroad and for international students in Germany. In most cases, students are funded once they’ve taken up their Master’s degree. Additionally, it is also possible to receive funding for shorter stays abroad or special projects.
Information is available in the DAAD scholarship database. We recommend applying for scholarships as early as possible (about a year in advance).

Many foundations and organisations have funding programmes not only for German and international students, but also specifically for students with a refugee background.
