All About College: Services, Resources, and Support
Physical Well-Being
- University Sports Bochum: A diverse range of sports and fitness activities featuring over 90 sports and more than 450 classes
- Unifit Bochum: The RUB’s fitness center offers 1,100 m² of modern training facilities for personalized fitness training as well as a variety of classes
- RUB Sports Facilities: An overview of the RUB’s sports facilities, which are used for various sports and fitness programs offered by University Sports
- Mensa, Rote Bete, and Q-West: Menus and opening hours for Mensa, Rote Bete, Q-West, and cafeterias
- A_Kaffee: Café and meeting place on campus
- _Edwards: Café and hangout spot on campus
- Kulturcafé: A café that also hosts cultural events
Mental Health & Self-Help
- Psychological Counseling Service: Support through workshops and coaching sessions for any personal concerns or problems that hinder or jeopardize your academic success, as well as guidance on self-help
- Nightline Bochum: A telephone and online resource run by students for students, where you can discuss personal concerns, problems, or questions anonymously and confidentially
- Campussegen: A service offered by the university chaplaincy for students seeking a moment of peace, a personal conversation, or spiritual guidance
- emPOWERangers: A student self-help group for discussing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depressive episodes, or difficult life situations
- All Student Self-Help Groups: An overview of student self-help groups at RUB where you can connect with other students and offer each other support
Social Interaction & Housing
- AKAFÖ - Student Housing: Among other things, Bochum offers many student housing options and relatively affordable rent
- AStA Gaming Hub: A gathering place for students to play games together, get to know each other, and socialize in a relaxed atmosphere
- Game Club: A student group for anyone who enjoys playing board games and wants to get to know other students
- International Game Evening Group: An international student group that meets regularly to play games together, socialize, and take a break from the daily grind of college life
- Cos (We meet where we are): A student self-help group focused on personal and cultural transitions, emotional challenges, and sharing experiences within a creative and supportive community
Family, Diversity, Equality & Protection
- BZI - Counseling Center for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities: Counseling and support for students and prospective students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, including assistance with compensating for disadvantages, organizing their studies, financing, and other issues related to their academic pursuits
- Resources for Students with Complaints: These offices provide support in cases of discrimination, harassment, conflicts, and other issues
- Anti-Discrimination Office: Counseling and support for students who have experienced discrimination or have questions about discrimination and their options for taking action
- Advice for Student Parents: Advice and information on balancing studies and family life, as well as support services for student parents
- Care Lunch Meetup: An open meetup and drop-in session for students with caregiving responsibilities who want to share experiences, network, and find support
- Campus Stars (Parent-Child Group): A student network for parents that facilitates exchange, mutual support, and the opportunity to meet other student parents (children are welcome)
- Central Office for Gender Equality: A resource center for questions regarding gender equality, equal opportunity, and the elimination of structural disadvantages at RUB
- Contact Point for Trans and Inter People: Counseling and support for trans*, inter*, and non-binary students, as well as information on issues related to gender identity and gender diversity
- LGBTQ+ “Queer at RUB”: A program for queer students and university community members to exchange ideas, network, and receive support
- Family-Friendly University: Information and support on balancing studies, family, and other caregiving responsibilities at RUB
- Autonomous Gay Student Association: Student resource center and advocacy group for gay students, offering counseling, networking, and opportunities for exchange
- Autonomous Queer-Feminist Student Council: Student advocacy and resource center for queer-feminist issues, exchange, and support
- AStA’s Autonomous Office for People with Disabilities and All Impairments: Advocacy and support for students with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or other impairments
- Escort Service Provided by Security: If you feel unsafe on campus, you can ask security to escort you—for example, to the bus stop, your bike, or the parking garage. The service is free and available 24/7.
International Students & Study Abroad Programs
- International Office: A resource for students seeking information about opportunities to study abroad during their academic studies
- Study Abroad Opportunities: Studying abroad, internships, research, writing a thesis abroad, and funding for outbound students
- Autonomous International Students’ Association: Student resource center for international students and students with an international family background, offering, among other things, opportunities for exchange, counseling, and advocacy
Finance & Law
- BAföG Office: A point of contact for questions and applications regarding educational assistance under the BAföG
- Student Financial Aid Counseling: The RUB’s Student Financial Aid Counseling service provides information on the options available based on individual circumstances.
- Advice on financing your studies is also available through AKAFÖ: The BAföG Office is also located here
- AStA Social Counseling: Counseling on social and financial issues that may arise during your studies, such as financial difficulties or special social circumstances
- AStA Legal Counseling: Free initial consultation for students on all legal matters
Relaxation
- Botanical Garden: A green oasis on campus that invites you to take a walk, unwind, and relax
- Spaces of Silence (Mensa and Building GB): Quiet retreats on campus that offer you peace and relaxation and are open to everyone, regardless of religion or worldview
- YOGA (AStA Classes): Yoga classes offered by the AStA that combine movement, relaxation, and body awareness
- Forest Bathing (HSP): A mindfulness program offered by University Sports in which you consciously experience the forest with your senses and find peace through exercises and mindfulness
