Examination and admission procedure

Faculty examinations

As soon as you have completed your application and your status has changed to “Application is being processed” in the admissions information portal (Infoportal), your documents will be forwarded to the faculty.

It will then be checked whether your studies from abroad are recognised for the desired master’s degree programme. This concerns substantial and subject-specific requirements. If you should have questions, please contact the subject-related counselling service for the degree programme. You can find all of the contacts in the programmes offered.

The examination at the faculty may take some time. Please be patient and refrain from asking questions during this time. As soon as we receive a result, you will be informed in the admissions information portal (Infoportal).

Admission procedure

If you meet the substantive, subject-specific and formal requirements, you automatically take part in the admission procedure. We will convert the grade of your degree abroad into the German grade system.

If you take part in the admission procedure, you will either be issued notification of admission directly in the admissions information portal (Infoportal) or you will be shown the status “Currently no admission approval” " and your position on the waiting list. As soon as all study places have been allocated and you have not received admission, you will receive a letter of rejection.

Admission information portal

The admission procedure can theoretically run until the end of October (for a winter semester) / until the end of April (for a summer semester). Please understand that we cannot assess your chances of admission.

Accepting admission

If you have received a notification of admission and would like to study at Ruhr-Universität, you must accept your university place in the information portal in due time. You will find the deadline for acceptance in the notification of admission. Acceptance takes place in the information portal.

Enrolment

Enrolment or change of degree programme is only possible within the period stated in your notification of admission.

You will find the documents you have to submit online when enrolling as a PDF list on the Registrar's Office website.

Once you have been admitted, you will have to have an obligatory counselling interview with the academic counselling service for almost every degree programme. Please note the information on this in your notification of admission. You must upload the proof of the interview when you enrol online or it will be digitally confirmed by the faculty.

You start online enrolment after you have accepted your place of study via the Admissions Information Portal.
