Lottery procedure

If you have missed the application deadline at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) or Hochschulstart, or if Hochschulstart has not allocated you the desired place, you can apply for a place on a degree programme with restricted admissions in the first semester via our lottery procedure. If study places are still available after the allocation procedures of RUB or Hochschulstart, these are awarded by lottery. In order to participate in a possible lottery procedure, you must (re)apply.

Places are only awarded by lottery if all applicants who have submitted their applications in due form and time have been offered a place by the regular application deadline (15 July/15 January) and not all places have been filled.

Application for lottery procedure

All prospective students who can present a respective higher education entrance qualification (such as the Abitur) can take part in the online lottery procedure.

The deadline will be announced and the application link published on this page.

As a general rule, the online application to the lottery procedure will be open

from early September to 30th September for winter semester
from early March to 31st March for summer semester

The Admissions Office will carry out a possible lottery procedure at the earliest after the above-mentioned deadlines have passed. If a procedure can be carried out, the results will be published here immediately and you can find out about the current status on this page. Admission notifications are made available in the admissions information portal (Infoportal Zulassung) .
