Lottery Procedure

If you have missed the application deadline at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) or Hochschulstart, or if Hochschulstart has not allocated you the desired place, you can apply for a place on a degree program with restricted admissions in the first semester via our lottery procedure. If study places are still available after the allocation procedures of RUB or Hochschulstart, these are awarded by lottery. In order to participate in a possible lottery procedure, you must (re)apply.

Application lottery procedure

All prospective students who have the relevant university entrance qualification (such as the Abitur) can take part in the lottery procedure. To apply, please only use our online application for the lottery procedure.

Applications for the lottery at RUB are submitted online and are possible for the first semester within the following periods:

For the winter semester from the beginning of September to September 30
For the summer semester from the beginning of March to March 31

The admission letters will be made available for download in the admission information portal after the admission procedure has been carried out. You will receive the link to this with the confirmation email you receive from us directly after applying online. The enrollment deadlines are usually very short. Rejection letters are not sent out.
